Seacoast Writers Association Beginnings

Started in 1967 by the York Writers, the Seacoast Writers Association was officially founded a few years thereafter when the Piscataqua Pens, the Tri-River Writers of Dover, the Seaquills of Hampton, and the Durham Writers Group joined the York group. All wanted to attract high quality speakers for local writers’ conferences. That focus continues today. The first Seacoast Writers Conference was held in the fall of 1972. Our 35th Annual Fall Conference was held Oct 2006.
Today's Seacoast Writers Association is a non-profit, member - supported organization dedicated to providing area writers with resources that enable them to hone their writing skills. We also work to supply members with practical information that may assist them in publishing their work, such as workshops in preparing manuscripts, submitting work, writing query letters, finding agents, researching markets, self-publishing and so forth. SWA members receive discounted admission to SWA events.
SWA organizes two one-day writers' conferences each year. We also sponsor an annual writers' contest and publish Currents, an anthology of prize winning poetry, short fiction and personal essays. SWA also publishes the Seacoast Writer, a quarterly newsletter for members. About Us
SWA members include published and unpublished writers in all genres. SWA draws most of its membership from New Hampshire, Maine and the other New England states, but we do have some members from outside of our geographic area as well. Board members who manage the organization and are ultimately responsible to the membership are themselves members and perform their duties as unpaid volunteers.
